Kotzebue, Alaska is 33 miles north of the Arctic Circle on Alaska's western coast. With a population of just over 3000 people, the community has been rocked by 18 suicides in 18 months. Last month, mental health speaker and author Jeff Yalden was hired as a consultant and to shake things up. Here’s what happened…
“In 27 years, I’ve never been attacked by students, teachers, and have threats and accusations pointed at me, my family, my assistant like I have at Bay Port High School. I did the same talk I do everywhere and stayed for the whole day with no visitor’s pass, free to roam the hallways, worked one on one with students. Had an amazing day with the counselors, social workers, and the students. Glendale High School did a survey recently in which they discovered 7% of their students were suicidal and had a plan. Indiana Community has six teen deaths in a year and a half.

Morgan County, Ohio is a small rural community in southeast Ohio who has been impacted by loss. The whole community is struggling. A couple of years ago, a car accident took the lives of two students. This has impacted the community greatly.
During the winter months of 2018, a young boy in grade 11 made a forever decision to end his life. This wasn't easy on a community already hurting and looking for meaning and understanding.
